Black bear sighted in Warren County

Our local newspaper, The Warren County Record, reports that a black bear was sighted in southern rural Warren County earlier this Spring in this news story Warren County Record Bear Sighting. Black bears inhabited much of Missouri during the 1800’s and into the early 1900’s until they were hunted into extinction in our state. Let’s not do that again! Bears are making a return to our state, especially in the Ozarks, and are protected wildlife that rarely cause a problem unless you are careless with trash, threaten them, or get too close. More information about the role they play in a healthy interconnected ecosystem and what to do if you see one can be found at http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/black-bear and http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/wildlife-reporting/bear-reports.
