2017 Nature Chautauquas

Take A Cool “Wet” Hike This Hot Summer on Saturday, July 29, 2017

Join us at 10 am on Saturday, July 29, for our second IBK Nature Chautauqua event of the summer: a wet hike along the Meadows Trail where along the way we will venture into the shallow waters of Charrette Creek. Master Naturalist and Missouri Stream Team volunteers Allison Volk and Leslie Limberg will literally get our feet wet to help us learn about local stream health, watershed protection, the impact of pollutants on macroinvertebrates, and how algae blooms happen.  Be sure to bring or wear your water sandals.

We will also learn what’s involved with creating a volunteer Stream Team within IBK to supplement the work of our Lakes of Missouri Monitoring volunteers. Let us know if you have a student in the family that would like to participate in an earth science project for extra credit or to add an eco-volunteer activity to their college application.

Nature & Wildlife Photography Workshop on Saturday, June 3, 2017

Our first Nature Chautauqua event for the summer will be on Saturday, June 3, from 10:30 am – 12 noon at the Charrette Creek Commons meeting room. We are excited to host a visit by Gary Hesse who is a professional photographer that teaches nature photography classes at Meramec Community College. Gary will present a fast-paced program of tips for getting those special outdoor photographs of landscapes and wildlife.

We also invite our own Innsbrook photo enthusiasts to join us and share what they have learned practicing their hobby in such a perfect setting. Just how did Cindy Bowers get this fox kit to look right at the camera without running away?

If you need more inspiration to sharpen your camera skills, then view some of these amazing photos of Innsbrook’s very own Bald Eagle family taken by fellow Nature Group members at  https://ibknature.com/gallery/innsbrook_eagles/.

The event from 10:30 am to 12 noon is free and open to all. At 1 pm, after a lunch break and weather permitting, there will be an optional hands-on photo expedition along an Innsbrook trail for those who desire more personalized instruction directly from our guest expert. (Any fee for this extra instruction will be payable directly to our guest instructor.)
